Edit Wikipedia? Who me?

So you think you can’t edit? What if I told you that it’s easy? What if I told you it’s addictive? What if I told you it can make a difference?

Wikipedia (home to the sum of all human knowledge) has a bit of a dark secret: nearly 90% of contributors to Wikipedia are are male! Time for change!

During Innovative Learning Week 2015 The University of Edinburgh set out to re-write the history books about the Edinburgh SevWe Can Editen – the first female students to matriculate at a UK University – and published close to 40 new articles on the theme of Women, Science and Scottish History.  At it’s conclusion, the event was considered the largest Wikipedia Edit-a-thon in the whole of the UK.

The fun continues this week as on Tuesday 13 October Edinburgh University joins in the world celebrations of Ada Lovelace, Ada Lovelace Day the world’s first female computer programmer, in this her bicentenary year (find out for about awesome Ada here).  There will also be hands-on digital skills building fun for beginners and experts alike: compose music with algorithms; meta data tagging with Dolly the Sheep; and create your very own Raspberry Pi (minicomputer) case.

Importantly, in the afternoon you can join in training for Wikipedia editing and become a contributor to the world’s largest inventory of knowledge. Go on. You know you want to…

SIGN UP or SHOW UP (2pm, Greenfield computer suite, Hugh Robson Building, ground floor ) – either way be there!
